INTRODUCTION: WHY THIS GUIDE EXISTS
Every decision shapes destiny.
Most of us don’t struggle because we lack information, we struggle because we make decisions out of alignment. We react instead of reflect. We rush instead of discern. We choose from pressure instead of purpose.
Jesus modeled a radically different way of deciding. He was never hurried, never insecure, never controlled by emotion or public opinion. His decisions flowed from identity, alignment, obedience, and peace.
This guide introduces a seven-step Christ-centered framework to help you slow down, gain clarity, and make decisions that honor heaven and shape healthy futures.
This is not a replacement for the book Decide Like Christ. It is an introduction to the way of thinking the book forms. Decide Like Christ
STEP 1: START WITH IDENTITY
Jesus never decided to prove who He was; He decided because He knew who He was.
Before Jesus ever preached a sermon, performed a miracle, or chose His disciples, the Father declared over Him: “You are My beloved Son.” Identity preceded activity.
When identity is unclear, decisions become emotional. When identity is secure, decisions become clear.
Ask yourself:
Am I deciding from identity or insecurity?
Am I trying to prove something, or steward something?
Key truth: When identity is secure, decisions become clear.
STEP 2: CHECK INNER ALIGNMENT
Fragmentation creates confusion; wholeness creates clarity.
Jesus lived from a place of inner integration; spirit, soul, and body in alignment. He withdrew to pray, processed pressure with the Father, and never allowed emotional noise to govern divine decisions. When your inner world is divided, your decisions will wobble.
Ask yourself:
Is my spirit at peace, or am I emotionally stirred?
Is anything in me resisting this decision?
Key truth: A divided inner life produces distorted decisions.
STEP 3: SUBMIT THE DECISION TO THE FATHER
Jesus only did what He saw the Father doing.
In Gethsemane, Jesus showed us that the most powerful decisions are forged in surrender. Submission does not weaken clarity, it creates it.
You don’t gain clarity by controlling outcomes. You gain clarity by yielding authority.
Ask yourself:
What does obedience require here, not comfort?
Have I surrendered the outcome or only the process?
Key truth: Clarity follows surrender.
STEP 4: DISCERN THE TIMING
Right decisions made at the wrong time still create regret.
Jesus refused to be rushed. He understood that timing is as sacred as obedience. Many good decisions fail not because they are wrong, but because they are premature.
Urgency creates pressure. Wisdom creates patience.
Ask yourself:
Is this truly urgent, or just loud?
Am I being rushed by pressure or led by discernment?
Key truth: Urgency is loud; wisdom is patient.
STEP 5: CLARIFY THE ASSIGNMENT
Not every opportunity is a calling.
Jesus was constantly presented with opportunities to expand His platform, satisfy crowds, or shift focus. He declined many good things so He could remain faithful to the right thing.
Assignment protects alignment.
Ask yourself:
Does this decision align with my calling, or just my capacity?
Is this pulling me forward or pulling me away?
Key truth: Calling filters opportunity.
STEP 6: COUNT THE COST HONESTLY
Jesus never hid the cost of obedience. Every meaningful decision carries weight. Avoiding the cost today only creates compromise tomorrow. Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the decision to obey despite it. Comfort preserves what is. Courage creates what can be.
Ask yourself:
Am I willing to carry the weight of this decision?
Am I choosing comfort now or faithfulness long-term?
Key truth: Avoiding cost today creates compromise tomorrow.
STEP 7: LET PEACE GOVERN THE DECISION
Peace is confirmation, not emotional relief.
The peace Jesus gives does not promise ease; it confirms alignment. Governing peace remains steady even when outcomes are heavy. Peace doesn’t remove cost, it anchors obedience.
Ask yourself:
Is there peace beneath the pressure?
Does this decision align with heaven, even if it’s hard?
Key truth: Peace doesn’t eliminate cost, it confirms alignment.
THE DECIDE LIKE CHRIST QUICK CHECK
Before making a decision, walk through these seven questions:
Who am I deciding as?
Am I internally aligned?
Is this surrendered to the Father?
Is the timing right?
Is this my assignment?
Am I willing to pay the cost?
Is there governing peace?
If alignment is present, clarity will follow.
